UpNorth Services Incorporated was founded in Brooklyn during the spring of 2002. Our mission is to provide continual support through a variety of services to families and friends of incarcerated individuals. With humble beginnings, our company has strived to maintain a devoted closeness with our customers and remain sensitive to the difficult situations they maybe enduring. Our business is to facilitate the packaging and shipment of consumer products that specifically adhere to New York State Correctional directives. We have developed a sophisticated system that makes it easy for friends and family to send inmates support packages easily via the internet and traditional mail/fax correspondence. In addition to assisting the public we help streamline facility package room processing by reducing the stress caused by inadmissible goods and contraband.

I would agree with most of what you said. My only gripe with them, which is a big one, is that they took so long to ship my order. I placed my order on the weekend. I suspected it would ship by the middle of the following week. Well, the company took the payment from my credit card, but did not have the food products I ordered in stock. Instead, I had to wait until the end of the following week before the order shipped. I received no notification of the delay so I could have an option on buying these things myself and shipping them so my incarcerated family member wouldn't have such an extreme delay. Instead, I had to call myself to make an inquiry to be informed of the status. The rep could only ensure me that the food products had arrived and they'd be shipping his package that day. But I think it is bad business for the company to sell items that it does not even have in its inventory to ship immediately. They should have a system to inform customers of what they have in stock so we can make an informed decision about our choice to shop with them, or in the alternative, shop on our own.

I have never dealt with such incompetence. They took 6 weeks to finally deliver an order -- first something was backordered and they held up the entire order for it without asking or even letting me know, then lied to me about when they would send it out for 3 weeks, then they sent it to the wrong facility, then instead of simply refilling the order and sending it to the correct facility right away, they WAITED FOR THE FACILITY TO RETURN THE ORIGINAL PACKAGE BEFORE RE-SENDING ITTO THE CORRECT PLACE. After callings everal timesto find out what was going on (they have never called me) I was assured by a supervisor that they would not wait for the return package but would send out another one right away - they lied again. Finally, when they received the package back, they assured me it would be sent FedEx overnight - nope -- they sent it GROUND. Lied again. Absolutely the worst company I have ever dealt with, and not to be trusted with your time or money.

shaking head I had ordered from Upnorth three years ago where their service was better. I ordered at the end of 2008 and was very very very disappointed with their services. First and foremost the package took more then three weeks to even get out. Not only did the packing slip say things were in it that were not in it, I NEVER NEVER received a refund ($70)for those items after we had to pay to send them back. I also did not receive a refund for the items that were returned to them by the facility. I have a copy of the packing slip I also have a statement by the correctional officer that received the package stating how the items that were in the package were not the items the packing slip said. I also never was refunded for those itmes that were never sent. I kept calling and kept being put on hold and then hung up. Finally spoke to a person in the "credit card department" that said I would get refunded and never was refunded. BEWARE OF ORDERING ANY TAPES. NEW YORK DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS STATED NO TAPES FROM UPNORTH SERVICES ARE ALLOWED. But yet they are still in thier catalog. They are bootleg and only tapes from legitimate record labels are allowed. I will never use them again and will definitely warn all about them. I visit weekly and have made sure the word is spread. My husband is on a 7 year bid and his best friend there is in for 20 so trust me the word has already spread. I have officially sent a letter and documentation to the Department of Corrections in New York to make a compliaint. I have also written a letter to the attorney general's office in New York about there business practices.

They sat on my order for almost two weeks and never let me know that some of the things I ordered were out of stock. I ended up calling them and asking why wasn't my package sent out, only to be told that there were things they didn't have. I asked why I wasn't informed and was never given an answer. Then I picked what I wanted substituted and they didn't send the package out till three days after. DO NOT BOTHER WITH THEM. They are a scam!!!

THEY SENT AN AUTOOMATED EMAIL STATING THAT THE PACKAGE WOULD GO OUT FEDEX THE NEXT DAY..HE NEVER GOT IT. YET THEY WERE EFFICIENT ENPUGH TO CHARGE MY CARD THE VERY NEXT DAY! THANKFULLY I WAS REIMBURSED BY MY CREDIT CARD. I REPORTED THEM TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. THEY ARE A SCAM COMPLETELY. I HAD ORDERED DOZENS OF TIMES OVER THE PAST FIVE YEARS AND HAD NO ISUES, THEN THEY TURNED AROUND AND STARTING STEALING FROM INMATES AND THEIR FAMILES.

I agree! This company is terrible!!! My original order was 2/28/09. A very small part of it shipped finally on 3/27/09. So far NOTHING else has shipped!!! wHEN i CHECKED THE STATUS, IT SAID THE ORDER WAS COMPLETE AND HAD BEEN DELIVERED ON 12/31/69!!!! THAT IS ALMOST 20 YEARS BEFORE HE WAS BORN-yikes!!! Def. do
